Mark Siddoway
Mark grew up in southeastern Idaho with his family: his father, Denton Siddoway, his mother Mildred, and brothers Doug, Steven, and Bryant. His love of science and perhaps the sting of Idaho winter weather drove him to attend Stanford for his bachelors, followed by Caltech for his PhD. At Caltech, between conversations with Nobel laureates such as Richard Feynman, someone far more important caught his eye: Gloria Jarvis, his future wife.
They were married in 1981 and had two children, Ben and Denton Siddoway. Mark always put his wife and children first, and his spirit and drive are things that he has passed on to both of his sons. His adventurous spirit led him to climb the tallest mountain in the continental United States when he was 25, and then 30 years later, to drag his two adult sons up the same hike. Later in life, Mark could be quoted as saying his two favorite vacation spots on the planet were wherever his two sons happened to be living at the time, and his unwavering support extended throughout our lives.
His professional accomplishments are too numerous to list, but he took the greatest amount of pride in training younger generations of scientists. Mark had a deep seated belief in the capacity of science to make the world a better place, which explains both his unabashed enthusiasm for NASA, as well as his enjoyment of all things Star Trek and Star Wars. It’s with this belief in mind that we invite you to contribute to St. Jude in Mark’s name, as the teams within this organization strive to implement new scientific breakthroughs to save and improve lives.
