Mary Magdalen Paska, lovingly referred to as Mads, 70, passed away suddenly on Wednesday September 15, 2021.
Mads was born on August 13, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late John and Ruth Fischer (Meagher). She was the youngest of four children. Growing up in Highlandtown, she enjoyed time spent with her family and the many friends who became family. Mads attended Sacred Heart of Jesus RC Church and graduated in 1969 from The Catholic High School of Baltimore. She eventually met the love of her life in 1967 through the Catholic Youth Organization. The two were wed on August 25, 1973, at Sacred Heart Church in Baltimore.
Mads and her husband had many adventures (and misadventures) together and she enjoyed passing on stories that were always sure to pull a few laughs. They built a beautiful life together including the addition of three sons along the way, who were her greatest pride and joy.
Mads was an incredible and devoted mother, spending much of her time taking on roles such as “Den Mother” during Cub Scouts, being a part of the PTA at school and the world’s best cheerleader at every sporting event. She made all the Halloween costumes by hand and every stitch was done with love.
As if her role as mother to three growing boys wasn’t enough, she began her career in non-profit fundraising and went on to spend 30+ years doing what she did best, helping people.
In 2016, Mads became “Mom Mom” and the joy in her heart was unmatched. Her favorite thing to do was spend time and have fun with her grandchildren.
Mads was referred to as the matriarch of her family and spent most of her time caring for those she loved. She planned and organized endless family gatherings and was the glue that held it all together. No Christmas Day went by without a signature drink created by Mads. You’d be lucky to get your hands on one of her famous sugar cookies.
Mads’ adventures never stopped, and she traveled with family, friends, and co-workers to places like England, Italy, Mexico and Central America and her favorite place on Earth, St. Thomas, USVI. She would always try something once and particularly enjoyed activities such as boating, snorkeling. and we can’t forget happy hour!
At the time of her passing, Mads lived in Frankford, Delaware in her dream home which she built with her husband. She filled every square inch of her home with love and care, with her family in mind and enjoyed much of her time entertaining there.
In addition to her parents, Mary Magdalen Paska is preceded in death by her grandson, Bodhi Paska. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Paska; her sons: Scott Paska, Brian Paska (Kristi Paska), Nick Paska (Audry Paska); her grandson, Miles Paska; her brothers: John Fischer and Phil Fischer; her sister, Ruth Gawryluk “Sis”; and countless other family members.
Although Mads was taken from us too soon, her beautiful memory will be carried in our hearts and minds forever.
